The increase in displacement was the main innovation of the Porsche 911 for 1970. After six years of honorable service for the 2-liter engine, enhanced in 1969 by the Bosch mechanical injection pump, the decision was made to increase the displacement to 2200 cc (in addition to the valve size), also to be able to enter the cars in the over-2000 cc class, particularly in Group 4 with the ST version.
Motorsport-driven decisions in those years were predominant in the organization of the Porsche range. In 1970, the 911 range included the T version, more basic—but also lighter, serving as the basis for racing—the E, which combined a certain construction simplicity with mechanical fuel injection and Hydrolastic suspension, and finally, the top-of-the-line road car, the S: 180 horsepower, MFI, and a richer standard equipment list, including a larger cooling system, Fuchs wheels, an aluminum rear hood, a rear stabilizer bar, a dashboard with combined gauges, and dual-parabola headlights.
The model we are offering for sale is one of the first produced, born Irish Green, with no options, cleared through customs in Italy on November 24, 1969, and sold by the Porsche dealership "Sagam" in Milan on December 11 to "Società Santa Luchina Spa." In mid-1972, the car returned to the dealership - likely replaced with the new 2.4 - and passed to its second owner in Udine, which is why the license plate was changed, indicating the new province. The same fate befell the 911 in July 1973, when it arrived in Perugia and acquired its current license plate. From 1973 to 1990, the car had three owners until it came into the hands of the director of the Magione racetrack, who registered it as a car of historical interest and kept it until February 1997, then it entered the garage of its current owner.
Never transformed, updated, or modified according to the fashions of the era when "old" 911s were usually converted to the more contemporary 3000 and 3200 versions, the car is today in excellent original condition. About twenty years ago, it underwent a general respray with the removal of damaged parts (documented with photos), the matching number engine was rebuilt by a well-known mechanic in Perugia, and the interior was reupholstered, now tan - a color combination also available - in place of the original black.
Aside from the renovated interior, you can see by the photos the 2.4S front spoiler, which has been present on the car for at least 36 years. It was likely installed in the early years when, to make the car safer at high speeds, many owners of 911 2000 and 2.2 models replaced the bumper, a very simple modification. It retains some unique features of the 911 2.2 MY70, including the white front turn signal plastics (specific to the Italian market), the "late Durant" round rearview mirror, the door locks with the lock in the horizontal position, and the "negative" color plate.
Over the past 30 years, the car has not traveled more than 1,000–1,500 km annually under the current owner's ownership, but the overall condition of the car clearly indicates that this 911 has never been used much, even in previous years. No special work is required before use, other than routine maintenance.
The car is delivered with the original steering wheel (now fitted with a period MOMO Prototipo), the intake manifold with its trunk, and the dual-beam headlights.
Green "libretto", ASI CRS, square black license plate, and the option of re-registration with Milan or Udine plates. The car can be inspected by appointment in Bologna. More details on www.gulfblue.it
