The NSU Ro 80 was a four-door, upper-middle-class sedan from NSU, marketed between 1967 and 1977. The car had a forward-thinking aerodynamic body and was named Car of the Year in 1968. The Ro 80 also featured a Wankel engine, which was unusual. The NSU Spider, in 1963, was the first to receive such an engine. A total of 37,374 units were produced during the ten-year production run.
At the Wald-und-Schlosshotel in Friedrichsruhe, 30 km east of Neckarsulm, Mr. Praxl (project manager), Mr. Froede (research), Mr. Sussner (production), and Mr. Strobel (engineering) met. There, they finalized the lines of the new car. It was to be a sporty, mid-size car with a twin-disc Wankel engine at the front and rear-wheel drive. It also featured a hydraulic transmission with a limited-slip differential, air suspension, and disc brakes.
The R80 presented here is a top-quality, original car that still has its original paint. It was in the possession of a museum for 40 years, which is why it's so beautifully preserved. Before coming here, the car was thoroughly overhauled, with all wear parts and fluids replaced. Now this car is completely ready to hit the road again, a feast for the eyes and for the new owner.
