HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
The MG TC is one of the most iconic British sports cars of the 1940s and is often regarded as the car that sparked a worldwide love for classic roadsters. This example was delivered in 1948 to the United States, as were the majority of its kind. In 2003, the car came into the possession of its first and current Dutch owner, who has owned it for 23 years. During this time, the car has been cherished and used for classic car events, such as the Elfsteden classic car rally. During this time, the engine has been overhauled and the car has been well maintained. The car is garaged indoors. A folder containing comprehensive documentation is included with the car: valuation reports, invoices for parts, a registration certificate from 1996 and maintenance records. In 2025, the car was valued at €33,000.

EXTERIOR
In the past, the paintwork was professionally sprayed in the attractive colour British Racing Green, which is still in good condition. This combines beautifully with the beige linen soft top. This is not in mint condition but operates smoothly. The bodywork is in a sleek and pristine condition with no signs of rust or damage. A notable feature is the car’s original condition, combined with only slight signs of wear. The chrome, lighting, windows and rubber seals are also in good condition. The grey-painted wire-spoke wheels are likewise in good condition. A badge bar is displayed beneath the colour-matched grille. The blue number plates feature luxurious raised lettering. The MG TC has a typically classic appearance with separate mudguards, spoke wheels, a narrow grille and an open two-seater body. Everything about the car exudes British motoring history.

INTERIOR
The interior is in good condition and features green leather upholstery, with no tears or damage. The wooden dashboard is in good condition and houses characteristic instruments and a 1956 Pebble Beach badge. The floor mats and side panels are also in good condition. Only the centre console shows a slight area of wear. The odometer is not running correctly. The interior is minimalist yet atmospheric, with a large steering wheel that connects the driver directly to the car’s mechanics.

TECHNICAL
Over the years, the MG has been well maintained and parts have been replaced. The engine was also overhauled in the Netherlands in 2010. The steering box was also adjusted at that time. No expense has been spared to keep the car in good running order. The underbody is also in good condition with no rust. New T/T Classic tyres have been fitted all round. A service was also carried out in 2024. The car drives, brakes and changes gear well.

GENERAL
The MG TC was built between 1945 and 1949 and was based on the pre-war MG TB. Despite its simple design, the car made a huge impression thanks to its light weight, open bodywork and pure driving experience. Under the bonnet lies a 1.25-litre four-cylinder engine producing around 54 hp. That may seem modest by today’s standards, but thanks to its low weight and compact build, the MG TC offered surprisingly sporty performance for its time. The car has a four-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive, which ensures a pure and mechanical driving feel.
An interesting fact is that the MG TC became hugely popular in the United States, even though the car was originally intended primarily for the British market. American soldiers stationed in Europe after the Second World War often took an MG home with them. This sparked a great deal of interest in America in lightweight European sports cars — something that would later contribute to the rise of brands such as Jaguar and Porsche on the American market. Another striking detail is that the MG TC was technically quite old-fashioned, even for its time. For example, the car still had a right-hand drive, even in many export models for America. Yet enthusiasts found that very authentic character appealing. The direct steering feel, the open-top driving experience and the simple mechanical design made every journey special. Furthermore, the MG TC is often regarded as one of the pioneers of the modern hobby centred on classic sports cars and vintage cars. Many collectors began their passion for classic cars with an MG from this period. Thanks to its relatively simple engineering, many parts are still available today, ensuring that restoration projects remain popular.
