Description

This superbly set up, quick and exceptional driving UK home market MGB Roadster has covered just 7000 miles since a complete full nut and bolt rebuild to show class condition. The restoration was based on a historic works rally specification by Maidstone Sportscars all the way back in 1994, and just one owner has had the car since completion. This glorious driving ‘pull handle’ Roadster has been cherished for 36 years and arrives with us totally on the button with its impressive stance and exhaust note. First registered in November 1964, the MGB had just four owners in its first thirty years. By 1987 the MGB had coveted 57000 miles and in 1993 it was ready for restoration with 65000 miles on the clock. The MG was taken to the Kent specialist and was then stripped down the bare shell and completely rebuilt. Pages and pages of invoices are on file detailing various new parts and panels ahead of the shell being prepared and completely re-painted in Old English White. The car was built up to a works style specification, de bumpered and fitted with an FIA roll bar.

Mechanically the car was completely rebuilt and treated to a gas flowed cylinder head, 45 DCOE Weber carb and stainless steel exhaust manifold. An all syncro gearbox was rebuilt and fitted, along with overdrive. The suspension and braking system were fully rebuilt, various suspension components powder coated, new brake discs and calipers, a new fuel tank, radiator and many new parts fitted to the car including new wiring loom. The hood frame was powder coated, new wheels fitted and the car was then collected by its long term owner based in Essex.

Whilst the spec would suggest this is a car ideal for road rallies and events, it has not competed or had this type of use. It's simply been used for enjoying as a fantastic driving, reliable, quick 1960's classic that's ideal for some long distance touring and regular use. All these years on the MG still presents well with a fine paint finish, lovely straight body that's structurally superb, and the interior trim has a delightfully aged feel. Rebuilding an MG to this standard cost a true fortune today and with its fast road looks, impressive performance, long term ownership and of course, the provenance of being an early pull handle example, this really does offer a magnificent opportunity.
