Description
At last, Daimler-Benz’s post-war range once again featured a saloon with a six-cylinder engine. The new Type 220 of the W 187 series was on display at the International Motor Show (IAA) in Frankfurt. The newly developed ‘heart’ of the car, the six-cylinder engine with an overhead camshaft, was a modern design, whilst the bodywork was conservative – typical of Mercedes at the time, but successful. The classic A and B Cabriolets were also available once again.
Our Mercedes-Benz 220 Convertible A was delivered on 22 September 1951 in Karlsruhe. The colour combination was black paint with red leather. During the meticulous restoration, great care was taken to preserve the car’s originality. In 1960, the classic car was issued with a second registration certificate. From that point onwards, the convertible remained in the same ownership for 19 years and was de-registered in 1979. Following restoration in 2015, it was re-registered. Its history is therefore almost fully documented. This Mercedes-Benz convertible represents the pure zeitgeist of its era.
