Introduced in May 1957, the XK150 was the final evolution of Jaguar's celebrated XK sportscar family. Following the XK120 and XK140, it brought a more mature approach to the formula that had established Jaguar as a leading manufacturer of sporting road cars. Fuller bodywork, a broader grille and a single-piece curved windscreen gave the model a distinctive appearance, while retaining the sweeping wings and long bonnet that characterised its predecessors. Initially available as a Fixedhead or Drophead Coupe, the range was subsequently expanded with an Open Two-Seater.

Jaguar's renowned twin-cam straight-six remained at the heart of the XK150, complemented by four-wheel disc brakes, a significant development drawing upon the marque's competition experience. The combination of performance, improved braking and greater refinement made the XK150 particularly suited to longer journeys. In Drophead Coupe form, its folding hood and wind-up windows offered the pleasures of open motoring with the comfort and weather protection expected of a touring car. Today, this blend of sporting heritage and elegant coachwork remains central to its appeal.

Presented in Carmine Red with a black leather interior and matching black hood, this 1959 Jaguar XK150 3.4 litre, manual with overdrive Drophead Coupe was purchased by our vendor from a fellow private owner in 2019 as a restored example. Its colour combination is complemented by chrome wire wheels with knock-off hubs, bright bumpers and additional front lamps and boasts power steering. With the hood lowered, the sweeping rear bodywork and long bonnet create the unmistakable profile of a traditional British sportscar, while the fitted black hood gives an equally smart appearance when raised.

The right hand drive interior is a particularly attractive feature. Black leather upholstery and matching door trim are accompanied by a figured wood-veneer dashboard and a wood-rim steering wheel, giving the cabin a warm and inviting character. Traditional instruments and a manual gear lever complete the setting, with the leather displaying the gentle patina of an older restoration. The hood also remains well presented, contributing to the car's pleasing overall appearance.

An established restoration, ALX 222 has benefited from being kept in a well-appointed storage facility and continues to present very well. The bodywork retains a good finish overall, with some localised minor age-related imperfections. These are consistent with the car's history and allow it to be appreciated as a preserved and presentable example with the character of a restoration that has mellowed over time.

The engine bay and underside similarly reflect use and the age of the restoration but provide confidence that this is not just a show pony and an ideal car for the road. A previous chassis repair is recorded in the MoT history, with a subsequent MoT pass noted; protective wax has been applied around the repaired area. These details form part of the car's history, while its principal attractions remain its smart cabin, attractive coachwork and overall presentation.

Accompanied by history and paperwork, this XK150 offers an appealing opportunity to acquire the final development of Jaguar's original XK line in Drophead Coupe form. Its red and black colour scheme, chrome wire wheels and inviting interior capture much of the appeal of Jaguar ownership in the late 1950s.
