Description

Who doesn't like the original XK series and the 120 roadster (OTS - open two seater) was as much of a 'Show Stopper' as was the E Type in Geneva 13 years later

The bodywork was considered a piece of art, and rather racy too.

The 3.4 litre , twin cam, straight 6 engine was all new and as we all know, would power a series of cars which won regularly on an International basis, whether this is early XK120's winning Rally's or E Type's winning the Goodwood TT, with the most notable being the Le Mans success 1950's

As road cars they were celebrated in Europe and across the Atlantic with film stars like Clark Gable, Tyrone Power, Robert Mitchum, Elizabeth Taylor, Lauren Bacall, Ingrid Bergman, Zsa Zsa Gabor to name but a few

It really was the start of something new and Sir William Lyons was head of his time in terms design and overall performance too - the XK120 being acclaimed at the fastest production car in the World at the time

Production ceased in time for the of the XK140 launched in October 1954, giving a little more space & a little more weight

So here we have one of the last XK120 roadsters, built in 1953 with chassis 674173 (last chassis number for an OTS was 676437)

Finished a silver metallic with deep red interior fitted with a canvas hood and tonneau cover

Panel fit is exceptional for one for these cars, as is the ride, acceleration and braking, making her a perfect example for the weekend trip the local pub for lunch or for a long trip in Europe or the States

Fitted with wire wheels, Vredestein tyres all round, front disc brakes, electric cooling fans, stainless exhaust and the Retro Trip meter for those who chose the Rallying route, where Special Stages or Regularities require precise timing of various sections

As you would expect everything works, including even the instrument lighting (most unusual) all gauges and indicators (a 'modcon' in those days rather than trafficators), a new 12v battery (with cut out and trickle charger connection) and with her electric choke she starts whatever the weather, literally on the button

Oh and I nearly forgot, for those of us taller than 5' 10" (1.78m) the pedal box has been extended so that we too can drive this pretty version of what, in my minds eye, the most elegant sports car of a generation

We'll being using her a lot before she sells
