The E-Type was introduced in 1961 and immediately caused a sensation. Not only because of its performance, but above all because the car looked as though it had come straight off a racetrack. Long nose. Small cockpit. What a fantastic design.

Malcolm Sayer’s design drew heavily on Jaguar’s experience with the D-Type and other competition cars. The central body structure was unitary, while at the front a tubular subframe supported the engine, suspension, and enormous forward-hinged hood. Hardly a conventional solution, but then again, the E-Type was hardly a conventional car.

Under that hood lies the famous 3.8-liter XK inline-six. In this version, it is fitted with three SU carburetors, exactly as Jaguar supplied it at the time. And that remains something special. Not because three carburetors are automatically better than two, but because they perfectly express the era this car comes from. Manufacturers sought additional performance through mechanical solutions, carburetors, camshafts, and compression ratios. It simply belonged to a different age.

This 1964 example was restored around 2010. A true nut-and-bolt restoration in which the Jaguar was carefully addressed and rebuilt. The result is impressive. The body is beautifully straight, the paintwork looks fresh, and the chrome, including the chrome wire wheels, presents superbly. The cooling system was also upgraded, which is certainly no unnecessary luxury on an E-Type that is actually driven.

Among other trips, the most recent owner took the Jaguar to his wine château. And frankly, we can think of few better destinations. Carmen Red, a Biscuit/Tan interior, and a winding road through the vineyards.

According to the information on the identification plate, the car still retains its corresponding numbers, making the overall package even more attractive. The atmosphere inside is exactly right as well. The light-colored interior contrasts beautifully with the deep red bodywork and feels well cared for, classic, and inviting. Be sure to take a look at our extensive photo gallery as well.

The 3.8 may also represent the E-Type in its purest original form. A four-speed manual transmission, that characteristic six-cylinder engine, and a body that still remains very close to the original 1961 design. You turn the key. All six cylinders come to life. And suddenly you understand all over again why the E-Type has required so little explanation for more than sixty years.

A 1964 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 3.8 Litre Roadster, finished in Carmen Red with a Biscuit/Tan interior, fully restored and presented in exceptionally beautiful condition. Three carburetors. Six cylinders. A world-famous design. And a wine château as one of its former destinations. What more could you ask for?
