The Ford Escort Mk1 was introduced in the late 1960s as a compact family car and quickly developed into an important platform for motorsport. Its straightforward construction, low weight and favourable weight distribution made the Escort particularly well suited to rally competition. Within the world of rallying, the model established itself as a regular contender in both national and international events, with the rear-wheel-drive version remaining especially popular thanks to its direct handling characteristics and its versatility across a wide variety of surfaces.

By 1974, the Ford Escort Mk1 had already earned a well-established reputation, while production of the Mk1 in Europe had come to an end in favour of the Mk2. As a result, well-prepared Mk1 examples gained a distinctive status within the rally community. The widebody bodywork of this Ford Escort Mk1 Rally reflects that tradition of extensive competition preparation, with the car specifically adapted for demanding use and the rigours of competitive rallying.

The Ford Escort Mk1 Rally therefore forms part of a rich motorsport heritage in which this generation of Escort played an important role in the development of both privateer and semi-works rally cars. The combination of proven engineering and exceptional adaptability ensured that the Mk1 continued to serve as the foundation for historic and specialist rally projects long after production had ceased.

This Ford Escort Mk1 has likewise been built as a dedicated rally car. It features a steel widebody body shell and is equipped with professional rally specifications throughout. The car has been comprehensively and professionally prepared for rally use, including a full roll cage and disc brakes on all four wheels. The underside has also been finished in green, while the fuel and brake lines have been rerouted through the interior for additional protection. Rally equipment includes a centrally operated fire extinguishing system, a modified fuel system and a works-type fuel tank.

The mechanical specification has also been upgraded for more demanding rally events. The Burton inline four-cylinder engine is fitted with steel connecting rods, forged pistons and twin 48 mm Weber carburettors. The drivetrain is coupled to a Quaife heavy-duty five-speed gearbox with mountshaft and a BTS clutch. In addition, the rear axle has been reinforced and fitted with an Okate limited-slip differential. Driver controls include an adjustable pedal box and a hydraulic handbrake. Cooling is provided by an aluminium radiator. Driver and co-driver are seated in Sparco Pro 2000 rally seats equipped with four-point harnesses. The car is also supplied with a separate bonnet-mounted bracket carrying four Wesem halogen spotlights.

No documented history is available recording the modifications and upgrades carried out on the vehicle. The specifications and modifications described above are based on information provided by the previous owner. The car is registered in the Netherlands; however, it is unknown whether all modifications were officially registered with the Dutch vehicle authority (RDW). Prospective buyers are advised to verify whether the vehicle can be registered in their country of destination should it be exported.
