The Ferrari 512 BB Carburettor is one of the most charismatic and collectible analogue supercars ever produced by Maranello. Introduced in 1976 as the evolution of the 365 GT4 BB, the 512 Berlinetta Boxer refined Ferrari’s first mid-engined twelve-cylinder road car into a faster, more mature and more usable grand touring supercar.

Powered by a 4.9-litre flat-12 engine fed by four Weber carburettors, the 512 BB delivered a unique combination of performance, sound and mechanical purity. With 360 horsepower, a dramatic Pininfarina body and a low-slung mid-engined architecture, it stood among the most advanced and desirable road-going Ferraris of the late 1970s.

More than a supercar, the 512 BB represented a decisive chapter in Ferrari history. It carried Maranello into the mid-engined twelve-cylinder era while preserving the raw, analogue character that defines the greatest classic Ferraris. (Ferrari Classiche)

Today, the carburettor-equipped Berlinetta Boxer is widely regarded as the purest expression of the model. Built before the arrival of fuel injection and before electronics began to reshape the character of high-performance road cars, the 512 BB Carburettor remains a highly sought-after Ferrari for collectors who value authenticity, engineering purity and driving involvement.

The Ferrari 512 BB Offered by Giro Classico

The example offered here is a beautifully presented and highly documented 1979 Ferrari 512 BB Carburettor, delivered new through Auto Becker in Düsseldorf on May 29th, 1979.

Today, the car is presented in the refined and highly desirable combination of Argento Metallizzato 106-E-1 over Nero VM 8500 leather. This elegant colour scheme perfectly complements the sharp architectural lines of the Berlinetta Boxer, giving the car a discreet, sophisticated and timeless presence.

As part of its documented history, this 512 BB was originally specified in** **Rosso Chiaro 20-R-190 with Nero VM 8500 leather. During its comprehensive restoration in the early 1990s, the body was refinished in the period-correct and factory-conforming Argento Metallizzato 106-E-1, while maintaining the correct Nero VM 8500 interior specification.

The result is a particularly elegant Berlinetta Boxer with a strong technical profile, a refined visual identity and the kind of understated presence increasingly appreciated by serious Ferrari collectors.

May 2026 Ferrari Car Expertise by Emiliano Torkar

A major element of this car’s documentation is the Ferrari Car Expertise carried out in May 2026 by Emiliano Torkar.

This inspection confirms the authenticity and integrity of the vehicle, including its matching-numbers engine and gearbox, together with the correctness of the numbered body components and body shell parts.

The expertise also confirms the integrity of the car and highlights the presence of coherent technical components, including the shock absorbers and brake calipers. Importantly, the car still retains its original first-equipment interior, including the original steering wheel.

This gives the car a particularly strong collector profile. Thanks to its matching-numbers drivetrain, confirmed body integrity, coherent mechanical components and preserved original interior, this 512 BB represents a highly credible candidate for Ferrari Classiche certification, requiring only limited refinements to complete the process.

The inspection confirms the authenticity and integrity of the car, including:

·matching-numbers engine;

·matching-numbers gearbox;

·matching body components and numbered body parts;

·structural integrity of the body and chassis;

·correct and coherent shock absorbers;

·correct and coherent brake calipers;

·original first-equipment interior;

·original first-equipment steering wheel.

Documented Provenance and Period History

The history of this Ferrari 512 BB is both fascinating and unusually well documented.

Its first owner was Mr. Geier of Rüsselsheim, who retained the car for approximately two years. In 1981, the Ferrari was acquired by Mr. Braun, a known Ferrari enthusiast based near Frankfurt.

During this period, the car was converted by the legendary Koenig Specials of Munich, receiving period performance and styling upgrades. At the time, Koenig Specials represented one of the most extreme and technically ambitious interpretations of high-performance Ferrari tuning.

The Koenig conversion included bespoke body modifications, mechanical performance upgrades, enhanced high-speed stability and period-correct tuning work, all reversible.

In the early 1990s, a subsequent owner commissioned a comprehensive restoration to return the car to original Ferrari visual specification. The work was entrusted to respected German Ferrari specialists, including Modena Motorsport of Langenfeld for body and cosmetic restoration, and Die Sportwagen Spezialisten / Hochst Ferrari for the engine, gearbox and chassis rebuilding.

Invoices on file document significant investment, including more than DM 35,000 for mechanical restoration and more than DM 40,000 for cosmetic restoration.

Carefully Maintained by Long-Term German Ownership

From 2011 until late 2024, this Ferrari 512 BB remained in the hands of its last German owner, who maintained the car with exceptional attention.

During this ownership, the Boxer benefited from further engine servicing, specialist maintenance by Formula GT, dyno testing confirming output in excess of 370 horsepower and more than €20,000 in documented maintenance.

Extensive recent maintenance

More recently, the car has also received important specialist work, including:

complete brake system overhaul;

·full Koni suspension rebuild;

·restoration of the original Cromodora magnesium wheels;

·new Michelin XWX tyres;

·refurbishment of the original upholstery;

·installation of new black wool carpeting.

The result is a Ferrari 512 BB that presents with remarkable mechanical integrity, visual elegance and strong collector credibility.
