For sale is a 1976 BMW 528 (E12 Series 1), one of the early carbureted models equipped with the original M30 inline-six engine, twin Zenith carburetors and the factory 4-speed manual gearbox.
This car has been enthusiast-owned for many years and has only been driven in fair weather. It has never been used during winter. The original registration documents are available and confirm a history of only three previous owners.
The body is in exceptionally good condition with excellent structural integrity. Approximately three years ago, the car was professionally repainted in its original Arctic Blue Metallic due to age-related paint wear.
The underbody is in very good condition. Only one small area has been repaired in the past; otherwise the car retains excellent original sheet metal with solid sills, jacking points and structural components.
The engine, gearbox and drivetrain perform very well, providing the classic driving experience expected from an early carbureted BMW straight-six. The exhaust system has been replaced with a genuine BMW new old stock (NOS) exhaust.
The interior remains original and presents well overall.
The front seats show age-related wear and could benefit from refurbishment.
The dashboard has the typical age-related cracks commonly found on BMW E12 models.
The sunroof is currently not operational and will require repair.
This is not a fully restored concours car but an honest, highly original early E12 with outstanding body condition and excellent fundamentals.
Early carbureted BMW 528 models with their original engine, manual gearbox and solid rust-free bodywork have become increasingly difficult to find.
