Is this not just dandy? This 1974 BMW E9 3.0 CSi was supplied from new in Spain and is in excellent condition. This car has been restored in the past and is a matching numbers vehicle as confirmed by the Spanish BMW importer. This, the 3.0 CSi, was the top of the range E9 model at the time. The 4-speed manual’s engine develops 200 Ps. The bodywork is courtesy of Karmann, praised by all BMW enthusiasts as one of the absolute highlights in the brand’s illustrious history. One glance at this car is more than enough to understand why. There is something about a polished silver car that lends it a very futuristic appearance. Fact is that the BMW E9 has grown old beautifully and has not lost none of its allure over the last 40 years.

The rust-free bodywork is in good condition. During its restoration the car was completely resprayed, with the good quality paintwork looking very neat. The car has retained its original wheels shod in good quality, correctly sized rubber. Brightwork, bumpers and lights are also the original ones and are in good shape. Underneath the BMW is pristine. The warm and dry Spanish climate meant this BMW escaped the need to have any welding.

Inside the car is decked out in lovely blue velours upholstery on the seats and blue carpets. The fine looking interior has clearly been well maintained. The imposing instrument cluster and controls all work as they should. The headlining is fine. The original radio deserves a separate mention. The boot lining is in a fine state and even the characteristic BMW tool-kit is mainly intact. The wooden inlay, the gear knob and steering wheel are in great shape and are original.

The car received excellent maintenance. The 3.0 CSi was the starting point of many fast BMWs. The car is a delight to drive and feels amazingly modern despite it respectable 48 years of age. Suspension and brakes provide a lot of reassurance. The brakes are nice and responsive and the suspension contributes to the car’s pleasant ride. The transmission works well and has nice gear ratios. This car lends itself equally to driving at speed down your favourite road or leisurely heading down the Autobahn. The BMW E9 seems to have an

infinite amount repertoire. This is typically a car you can show up in anywhere you please, whether its a family party or at the opera, with a BMW E9 you will always come up trumps.
