A truly beautiful example
The Aston Martin V8 Volante was introduced in 1978 as the open-top version of the V8 saloon, developed primarily with the US market in mind. It combined the same hand-built construction and strong V8 performance with a fully lined, power-operated soft top, making it a proper grand tourer rather than just a fair-weather car.
Production continued through to 1989, with steady development over that period. By 1986, the Series 2 cars had been introduced, bringing Weber-Marelli electronic fuel injection in place of the earlier carburettors. This improved starting, drivability and general usability, and is one of the key distinctions of the later cars. The revised engine setup also resulted in the flatter bonnet line seen on these models.
This example was built in April 1986 and is one of a relatively small number of Series 2 Volantes produced. It retains its numbers-matching 5.3-litre V8 engine and is fitted with the more desirable five-speed ZF manual gearbox, rather than the standard automatic. This combination suits the car well and adds to the overall driving experience.
As a model, the V8 Volante is defined by its torque and relaxed performance. It is not about outright speed, but about covering distance comfortably, with a strong engine and a solid, well-built feel. The open-top element adds to that, making it a very usable grand tourer.
Accompanied by a copy of its original build sheet, this is an excellent example that starts easily, runs cleanly and drives very well. A straightforward and appealing V8 Volante in later fuel-injected Series 2 form, with manual transmission and strong usability.
