The Alfa Romeo 1300 Junior Zagato is based on the Alfa Romeo 105/115 Series Coupé. The striking two-seater Zagato coupé body was designed by the renowned master designer and Zagato chief stylist Ercole Spada, who made his name with creations for Aston Martin, Ferrari, Maserati, Abarth, Lancia and Alfa Romeo. His design for the 1300 Junior Zagato was unveiled at the Turin Motor Show in November 1969. Over the following three years, just 1,115 examples were produced. At the end of 1972, the 1300 Junior was succeeded by the 1600 Junior, while the successful Zagato body style continued in production.
The 1300 Junior Zagato features several distinctive characteristics. Particularly unique is its electrically operated rear hatch, which can be left slightly open while driving to create a unique cabin ventilation system. Also notable are the bucket seats with integrated headrests. The dashboard, too, is unmistakably Zagato, with its large rev counter and speedometer positioned directly behind the steering wheel, complemented by three additional gauges in the centre of the dashboard.
This Zagato was delivered new in Italy. The extensive documentation file includes the original “Certificato di Origine” issued in July 1970, as well as several Italian documents that trace the ownership history. The original owner's manual has also been preserved. The car has previously undergone a bare-metal respray, with photographic documentation included in the file. In 2017, the Alfa Romeo was imported into the Netherlands and registered there. In 2024, the engine was completely rebuilt, with the corresponding invoice included in the documentation. Since then, the Zagato has hardly been driven.
Everything about this Alfa Romeo 1300 Junior Zagato is distinctive and special. The car's excellent condition and extensive documentation demonstrate the appreciation and care shown by its previous owners. This is a motor car that has clearly enjoyed a life of careful ownership, attention and preservation.
