HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
The vintage Italian style is beautifully evident in every refined detail of the 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider Veloce. Appreciating its beauty is easy, but finding a genuine Giulia Spider Veloce from that model year to add to a collection is far more difficult. These elegant cars are already rare – only 1,091 were produced – and finding a well-preserved example is therefore like looking for a needle in a haystack. But here we are pleased to offer: a very fine and original example which was delivered new in 1965 in Las Vegas, United States. The car was later moved to Sweden and eventually imported to the Netherlands by its last owner in 2019. The car currently has a Dutch registration.

EXTERIOR
An Alfa Romeo Giulia Spider; one of the most iconic Alfa Romeos ever built, and in the powerful and rare Veloce version to boot, in the correct ‘Alfa Rosso’ colour. The car is virtually entirely original: as far as can be seen, there is no welding and the body panels are still as they left the Pininfarina factory. The chrome trim and window seals are also original. The car is in a good, honest condition – not perfect, but ideal for enjoying on the road. Thanks to storage in a heated garage, the car has remained rust-free. The soft top has been replaced with a high-quality mohair version and is in good condition. The 15-inch wheels are fitted with hubcaps. The four tyres are from the premium brand Michelin and still have sufficient tread.

INTERIOR
The interior is finished in black vinyl and is in remarkably good condition. Both the seats and the carpet are neat, and the dashboard is undamaged. No aftermarket radio has been fitted. The boot looks well-maintained and houses the battery and fuel tank. In addition, an extra switch has been fitted for the windscreen washer, replacing the original foot pump system. The attractive imitation leather contrasts beautifully with the red upholstery and the red dashboard. The imitation leather is also used on the doors and is free from damage throughout. The steering wheel features three spokes. The equipment includes Veglia instruments (speedometer, rev counter and combined oil, temperature and fuel gauge). Lap belts have been fitted for safety. The distinctive Alfa Romeo logo in gold adorns the centre console.

TECHNICAL
The Giulia Spider Veloce is powered by a 1600 cc four-cylinder in-line engine with twin camshafts, twin Weber carburettors, front disc brakes and a five-speed manual gearbox. The battery is located in the boot. Since 2019, the car has undergone a thorough technical overhaul, with over €20,000 invested. Among other things, the window mechanisms, door handles and brakes have been replaced. The gearbox and intermediate shaft have also been reconditioned. The engine and suspension have been thoroughly serviced. In 2021, 4 Koni dampers and 4 new spark plugs were fitted.
Thanks to its low weight of just over 900 kg and rear-wheel drive, it is a wonderful driver’s car: whether you want to cruise around Lake Como or tackle the bends in the Alps, this Alfa will put a smile on your face. We can hardly imagine a more atmospheric car. The car starts, drives, brakes and changes gear well.

GENERAL
The Giulia Spider 1600 is instantly recognisable by the air intake on the bonnet, a detail missing from the previous model (Giulietta Spider). The Veloce version is particularly special: introduced in 1964 and fitted with the 112 hp engine from the Sprint Speciale, this was the fastest version within the standard Giulia production line. In 1966, the Giulia model was succeeded by the Alfa Romeo Duetto. The name ‘Giulia’ is an Italian girl’s name, derived from the Latin ‘Julius’, with the primary meanings ‘youthful’, ‘dedicated to Jupiter’ or ‘friendly’. It is the Italian variant of Julia and symbolises freshness and vitality. A description that, in our view, perfectly suits this Giulia Spider! This rare Veloce remains a coveted collector’s item, especially in original condition.
