Description

The 1930 Royal Enfield Model K represented the largest and most powerful machine in Royal Enfield’s revised A–K model range for the 1930 season. Introduced as part of a rationalised lineup that replaced earlier numeric designations with lettered models, the Model K stood at the top of the catalogue as a robust 9.76 hp side-valve V-twin designed for both solo and sidecar work.

Powered by a 976cc side-valve V-twin engine (85.5 x 85 mm bore and stroke), the Model K delivered strong low-speed torque suited to heavy touring and commercial duties. Transmission was via a Sturmey Archer three-speed gearbox while braking was provided by 7-inch front and 8-inch rear Enfield drum brakes. In performance terms, the Model K was not built for outright speed but for dependable power and long-distance stamina. Its large-capacity V-twin engine provided smooth, flexible pulling power.

For 1930, the frame was revised to lower the saddle height by 1½ inches to a more manageable 27½ inches. The new front fork incorporated shock absorbers, improving comfort and control. The magneto drive ran in enclosed aluminium chain cases with adjustable oil flow, a practical refinement for durability. The exhaust system was distinctive, using a single common fishtail outlet for both silencers. Finish was typically black enamel with the tank in two shades of Enfield green, reflecting the marque’s traditional styling.

This particular Model K is an older restoration in very condition both cosmetically and mechanically. The engine goes very well with good compression. The speedo reads 6598km and it is believed this is the distance covered since restoration. It should be mentioned that the lining on the petrol tank is uneven and the motorcycle would benefit cosmetically from a re-paint or re-lining of the petrol tank.

Engine and frame numbers are matching as confirmed by the original Danish registration documents from 1932 that accompany the motorcycle. Several other 1930s documents relating to the motorcycle are also included.

Registered with Danish (EU) registration documents.
