HARLEY-DAVIDSON FL "KNUCKLEHEAD" Model year 1947
This 1947 Harley-Davidson FL carries the matching frame and engine number (matching numbers). Known as the "Knucklehead" for the distinctive shape of its rocker box covers, the FL variant combined the 74 cubic-inch engine with a high compression ratio, making it the strongest civilian Big Twin offering of its time. 1947 also marks the final year of this engine generation before it was succeeded by the Panhead, and with it the last model year of the classic rigid-frame, springer-fork chassis in its unaltered postwar form.
A documented chain of previous ownership in the United States exists for this machine. It was acquired in 1995 in Switzerland and subsequently brought to Germany, where it was first registered in 1996. The motorcycle presents in good condition and spent several years stored under cover in a garage.
