1926 Rolls Royce 20hp Mullion Doctors Coupe YR5340
Chassis Number: GYK36
Registration Number: YR5340
A one off Doctors Coupe Body by little known coachbuilders Mullion of London SW11. This is a very very original car with an original interior covered by cloth seat covers to preserve the seating surfaces underneath. The hood is of Japanned leather & raises & lowers very easily. It won a preservation prize at a recent 20 ghost rally. To the rear is a flip open dickey seat upholstered in original black leather. The door handles are really beautiful items with rasied relief. The dash has the usual quota of correct instruments & also has a useful closing cubby hole located in the passenger footwell under the dash.
The car was on blocks in the previous lady owners garge for many many years which kept the miles off it. Upon purchase by the current onwer the late lamented expert Roy O'Sullivan was summoned to recommission the car. Amazingly with a fresh battery & fresh fuel it fired right up. The current lady owner drives it occasionally & confesses to not being much of a tinkerer & thus has elected to pass the little car to a new custodian.
Possibly the best part about the car is the perfect state of the engine. It runs in silence with over 30lbs of oil pressure & starts readily off the advance retard lever without recourse to the starter motor once the engine has been warmed. The original under trays are in place as is the Lucas oil can mounted on said trays. Both a Klaxon & a Bulb type horn are found under the bonnet. To the rear is a period motoring trunk with slightly unusual bevelled edges. Leather Gaiters cover the leaf springs all round. A Barker patent headlamp mechanism allows for the lights to be tilted forwards. Ace wheel discs are fitted all round including to the two spare wheels.
Some thousands of pounds on maintenance have been spent with local Rolls Royce luminary Harvey Wash whom it has to be said really knows his subject. (Bills for the recent work are on file). Under his skilled hands the car is now running like the proverbial swiss watch. It goes extremely well with such light coachwork easily attaining 50MPH. Paintwork is older but presentable. Dual side mount spare tyres are installed in the runniing boards.
The car arrives with us in a few weeks time at which juncture we will conduct a full photo shoot to our usual standards. Prior to arriving with us the car resides near Eye in Norfolk. The beauty of this car is the silent engine, the very unmolested original state of the car & the pleasing well proportioned coach work. It wants for nothing & is a joy to drive.
