  • Factory finished in Dubonnet over Fawn Connolly leather; now presents in Almond Green following an older restoration
  • Just three registered owners from new; acquired by the vendor in October 2007
  • Accompanied by a copy of the factory build sheets

Considered by many to be the most desirable iteration of the Aston Martin DB4, the Series IV was distinguished by its recessed rear light formation, a lower bonnet scoop, and slatted front grille. A mere 185 examples would emerge from the Newport Pagnell factory gates.

Offered here is chassis number DB4/876/R, which is believed to be one of circa only 120 configured in right-hand-drive form ideally suited for British roads. According to the accompanying copy of the factory build sheet, this Series IV was originally finished with Dubonnet paint over a Fawn Connolly leather interior. The car was also fitted with an optional overdrive, two Marchal foglamps, chrome wheels, a heated rear screen, plus two wing mirrors.

The DB4 was delivered on 28 February 1962 and sold via the J Blake & Company motor agent of Liverpool to its first owner, Mr Cyril Allen of Disley in Cheshire. The sales ledger lists the DB4 as having been paired by the factory with engine number 370/964/SS, which it retains to this day. As the last two letters denote, this was the optional Special Series motor that added an additional SU carburettor to boost the 3.67-litre straight-six from 240 up to 266 brake horsepower.

The DB4 having spent its entire life in the United Kingdom, it boasts just three registered keepers from new. The consigning owner acquired the car in October 2007. Benefitting from an older restoration, it now presents in attractive Almond Green. Furthermore, a July 2013 invoice (available to view on file) for £15,710 reflects a thorough overhaul of the engine and carburettors, refurbishing of the propshaft, the steering system, and brakes, plus replacing the front and rear suspension. Then, in September 2020, Hardy Engineering Transmissions of Leatherhead in Surrey rebuilt the rear axle and differential at a cost of £2,998.

Boasting its hugely desirable, matching-numbers Special Series engine, this right-hand-drive Series IV is sure to appeal to British collectors, with the winning bidder set to become only the fourth owner in this car’s 60-plus-year history.

Please note that this car has been in long term storage and will require some further mechanical recommissioning.
