Description

XAC 60H was supplied new by Rover agents Sam Robbins Ltd of Rugby on the 10th March 1970, finished in Burnt Grey over Silver Birch and perfectly complimented by a Mulberry leather upholstery. The Rover was ordered with optional extras such as the Duo-Tone paintwork, and also laminated front windscreen, Radiomobile radio and heated rear window.

The Rover stayed in the Rugby area throughout its early life spending 17 years with its first owner. Having changed hands for the first time in 1987, the Rover then spent 9 years with its second owner who kept the car until 1996 by which time it had covered 86,000 miles. The next owner from 1996 owned the P5B for around 15 years and whilst not really using it, he did spend considerable money having the car sympathetically restored, retaining as much originality as possible. The next owner covered in the region of 9000 miles in the car and in 2018 the gearbox was fully rebuilt, new tyres fitted, the bumpers re-chromed, the door cappings French polished and the original Mulberry leather carefully renovated.

In 2021 over £5000 was spent on the car to include a new stainless steel exhaust system, new coolant hoses, front suspension bushes, rear spring bushes, replacement sump gasket, rocker cover gaskets, and a major brake service. The car was then owned by one of our friends in South Wales, he enjoyed the Rover throughout the 2023 show season and later that year came to us to be sold. We sold the car to a Newcastle based collector and prior to delivery we freshly serviced the Rover, replaced front and rear windscreen seals, ball joints and carried out some detailed paintwork. Invoices are on file for over £3000 and the car has covered less than 200 miles since last seeing the car.

Now returning to us with 98800 miles covered, the Rover arrives with us in beautiful condition. The bodywork and underside are exceptional, the paintwork gleams and is of a lovely standard, as is the chrome work. The upholstery is that of a high quality, largely original car with lovely soft leather, clean headlining, lovely carpets and dash. The colour combination is quite simply exquisite; the car has real presence. Recent history has seen the car in the hands of a host of classic car enthusiasts who have enjoyed ownership and have continued to keep the car in impressive condition throughout. On the road the P5B is wonderful, its smooth 3.5 V8 is in excellent order, the gear changes smooth and the general ride and quality are quite simply first class. There is no surprise these cars were chosen by the British government and Royal family, they are a wonderful, luxurious cruising car that offer comfort, reliability and a touch of class. Supplied with its original factory tool kit and literature pack, this is a P5B for the discerning buyer and it won't disappoint
