Description

A charming MGB in a neat driver’s condition. It has been with a single owner for a very long time and has been well maintained. It is a European specification model, so it has a kilometre counter. It passed its last MOT without any issues and, now that it is 50 years old, is exempt from further MOTs. It features the attractive chrome bumpers, making it considerably more attractive than its contemporaries. And it has a higher value than a rubber bumper!

The bodywork has been restored in the past, and the work was carried out to a high standard. The MG was then repainted in the correct colour, ‘Dark British Racing Green’, and the paintwork now shows various signs of wear and minor imperfections. Nothing serious, and you won’t notice them at all whilst driving. This iconic colour suits the B beautifully – a classic through and through. The wire-spoke wheels are still in very good condition and look superb. The soft top appears to be original and shows signs of wear, but still closes as it should. The original cover is included and fits nicely too. So you can drive it as it is and enjoy it, or you can choose to tackle the paintwork (in due course).

The interior is completely original and well-maintained; the dashboard is intact and hasn’t dried out. All the gauges work as they should. The seats are remarkably neat and upholstered in the original imitation leather. The classic wooden Moto Lita steering wheel looks great and feels good in the hands.

And what a lovely MG this is; it ‘starts on the button’, whether cold or warm, and the rock-solid, incredibly reliable 1.8-litre engine has plenty of torque. It handles beautifully, shifts gears smoothly and directly, and drives superbly as a result. Both the gearbox and the differential are wonderfully quiet. Simply a lovely classic convertible. In any case, an MGB is the ideal car if you’re looking for a classic that drives like a modern car without breaking the bank. Produced for a full 18 years, it’s proven to be reliable and has an excellent supply of spare parts. And it’s a timelessly charming classic: stylish, understated and very British.
