In 1971, Mercedes‑Benz introduced the 280 SE 4.5, the top model of the hand-built W108 S‑Class. The 280 SE 4.5 was powered by the legendary M117 4.5‑liter V8, an engine that delivered smooth performance without ever sacrificing elegance. With 198 hp and impressive torque, this sedan never feels slow, despite its generous proportions. And although it may sound like a serious executive car, anyone who has driven one knows that it has far more character and temperament than you might expect.
This particular example, from 1972, belongs to a rare series. Only a few thousand of these 280 SE 4.5 sedans were ever built, and this car has been cherished throughout its life by owners who understood exactly what they had.
The car has been exceptionally maintained throughout its life, featuring a Tan leather interior and fully restored wooden trim. Mechanically, it is just as impressive: the V8 runs smoothly, and the automatic transmission shifts exactly as Mercedes intended.
In 2000, this example was brought to Germany, where it has remained ever since, complete with TÜV inspection. What truly sets this 280 SE 4.5 apart is the classic “Dunkelolivgrün over Tan” interior combination—chic, elegant, and highly sought after. The car is also equipped with air conditioning, power windows, and a Becker radio, a subtle reminder that luxury was already a statement in 1972.
At the end of December 2025, the car received a comprehensive major service, with a complete maintenance history dating back through all previous years. In addition, it comes with a thick, complete folder of documentation, exactly as you would expect from a German classic.
