Designed in the late 1940’s and launched in 1948, the Jaguar XK 120 caused a sensation both in the UK and abroad. The newly developed XK 120 engine was an immediate success in competition and created a generation of engines that would remain in production until 1992, powering both competition cars, sports cars and the refined Jaguar saloons, from XK to XJ, the brand was synonymous with speed and comfort. The XK120 in more recent years continues to attract attention with it’s flowing lines and stylish looks, as we move forward into the 21st Century, the XK 120 was an outstanding style icon of the late 1940’s and today that style still continues to collect admiring glances whenever used. The XK has covered on 10305 miles since restoration, the rebuilt VSE engine being installed just over 2000 miles ago, the condition is as new, the sparkling red coachwork and full black leather are in excellent condition, the car can only be described as excellent in all areas.
Due to the ill health of the owner we have been retained to sell this exciting and sensibly uprated XK 120 Roadster. 70001 is an exceptional RHD XK 120 roadster restored to the exacting specification of a qualified engineer who wanted a fast Jaguar XK120 suited to use on modern roads, the object being to build a car that could be used for fast road and long distance events. The donor car was a 1952 Left Hand Drive 120 Roadster that has been rebuilt following a high quality restoration that is capable of covering long distances with speed and in comfort. The XK, following a nut and bolt chassis up restoration and conversion to RHD has had the following work carried out to the owner’s exacting standards; 3.8 litre engine rebuilt by VSE to fast road spec with D type cams and unleaded conversion Modern crank oil seal conversion Electronic ignition with choice of advance curves Uprated aluminium radiator with electric fan and electric water pump T5 5-speed box with hydraulic clutch, 104 tooth flywheel. Replated windscreen and retrimmed side screens are supplied with the car.
When restored, the chassis was stripped and certain strengthening added to the front end, it was repanelled as required with any areas or rust removed, the coachwork was then refinished in the original red.
The interior was modified and upgraded to full leather, the seats were purpose build based on the original design but with improvement of being adjustable and reclining. Full harnesses are fitted. For those that would like some additional protection, the original V screen comes with the car as do a set of side screens and mohair tonneau.
As per above specification above, the XK has covered just over 10, 000 miles since restoration, and only just over 2000 miles since the uprated VSE rebuilt engine was fitted. Available with the car is a record of the restoration reminiscent of the Domesday Book, it is extremely large and contains the invoices for the parts supplied during the course of the restoration.
