Description

A British Roadster of the Highest Calibre – The 1962 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark II BN7

The Austin-Healey 3000 is one of the great icons of British sports-car engineering. Born from the collaboration between Donald Healey and the British Motor Corporation, the so-called “Big Healey” developed into one of the most successful open sports cars of its era during the late 1950s and early 1960s. With its long bonnet, short overhangs, and powerful inline six-cylinder engine, it embodied the unique combination of performance, elegance, and driving enjoyment that made British roadsters famous around the world. Numerous successes in international rallies and endurance races further established the Austin-Healey 3000 as a major force in historic motorsport, and it remains one of the most sought-after classics of its era to this day.

Introduced in 1961, the 3000 Mark II BN7 is regarded by enthusiasts as one of the most attractive and rarest variants of the entire model range. While later versions were predominantly built as 2+2-seaters, the BN7 remained true to the purist two-seater concept, providing a particularly direct and sporting driving experience. Adding to its appeal is the short-lived Tri-Carb version, equipped with three SU HS4 carburettors, which gives the 2.9-litre inline six-cylinder engine exceptionally responsive throttle behaviour and lively power delivery. Only 355 examples of this highly desirable combination of BN7 bodywork and triple-carburettor configuration were produced, making it one of the most sought-after and valuable versions of the Austin-Healey 3000 today.

The vehicle offered here was originally delivered in the elegant colour Ivory White and exported to the United States. In 1994, the Healey made its way to Switzerland, where it underwent a comprehensive frame-off restoration prior to 2001. The car was completely dismantled and meticulously rebuilt as part of the restoration. It subsequently received its current sporty and elegant two-tone red and black paintwork, while the original wire wheels and factory-fitted overdrive were retained, as confirmed by the British Motor Industry Heritage Certificate. This successful combination of authentic mechanical specification and tasteful presentation further enhances the distinctive character of this rare roadster.

The Healey has continued to be carefully maintained and technically refined over the past 25 years. Extensive investments include, among other things, a new clutch, a completely resealed engine, the installation of an aluminium flywheel, a high-performance starter motor, and new fuel and water pumps. These improvements not only enhance reliability but also improve throttle response and overall drivability. The car is also accompanied by a dismantled luggage rack, the original bumpers, and extensive documentation including invoices and records of the work carried out. The Swiss Veteran registration granted in January 2026 confirms the excellent technical and cosmetic condition of this exceptional Healey.
