Description
Triumph TR4, year 1962.
Bodywork finished in Wedgewood blue like the Triumph Works-Rally cars of the 1960s, combined with a bespoke black race/rally interior featuring black leather bucket seats, a dashboard clad in black leather, and black carpet.
This magnificent Triumph TR4 was imported from the USA in the early 1990s and subsequently fully restored. In 2007 the TR4 was completed as a circuit racing car with a low and stiff suspension.
The engine was fully overhauled en professionally tuned by Red Baron Racing and now produces about 170 brake horsepower and 230 Nm of torque. The engine breaths through a pair of twin choke Weber DCOE 45 mm carburettors. The camshaft is not a full race version because the engine idles well en runs docile under normal road conditions.
The high engine power becomes evident above 4000 rpm. The engine is fitted with an aluminium Triumph Tune rocker cover, Mallory ignition, a more efficient alternator, an electric cooling fan, an oil cooler and a Facet petrol pump. The rear axle has a LSD (75%) in the differential.
The brake system was uprated to a dual circuit system, and the standard fuel tank was replaced by a racing fuel cell.
This TR4 has been on the circuit for 2 seasons in 2007 and 2008. In 2022 the racing suspension setup was modified into a road/rally setup offering more ground clearance and a more comfortable ride yet retaining the sharp steering and excellent road holding capabilities. The interior was built bespoke and to a high standard.
Not a ‘hard core’ racing interior but a carefully upholstered interior with black trim and headlining, superb Cobra bucket seats, four-point safety harnesses, a half roll cage behind the seats, a special MotoLita sports steering wheel with a smaller diameter and a thick leather covered rim.
The dashboard is very clean and still classic only featuring the most important gauges and switches. The ‘one-piece’ hard top, the original Minilite alloy wheels shod with Kleber 185/70-15 tyres, and the Lucas lamps at the front and the rear complete the fantastic appearance of this well sorted and competitive Triumph TR4. The twin Weber carbs and the Stainless-Steel exhaust both produce a magnificent and sporty soundtrack!
This wonderful Triumph TR4 was very well maintained and kept up to date over the years. The car is in an excellent condition, and the driving experience is exhilarating yet comfortable enough to drive longer distances without getting tired of the noise and a harsh ride.
This racy Triumph TR4 is a well-balanced sports car for the enthusiast who knows that it is not easy or cheap to reach this level of harmonious perfection in a competitive classic sports car.
