Description

The Österreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft ÖWG (Austrian Arms Factory Company) was based in Steyr. It began manufacturing cars in 1920. The first Steyr passenger car was the Type II, which had a robust six-cylinder engine with a displacement of 3.3 litres. Because the company also built racing cars until 1928, which were very successful in hill climbs, Steyr cars gained a reputation for being particularly suitable for driving in the mountains. From 1929, Dr. Ferdinand Porsche was chief designer at Steyr. In 1934, the company merged with Austro-Daimler to form Steyr-Daimler-Puch AG. After the company had weathered the global economic crisis reasonably well and Dr. Ferdinand Porsche had been replaced by the graduate engineer Karl Jenschke as chief designer, the 100, 120 Super and 200 models appeared in 1935.

Unfortunately, the date of first registration of our Steyr 120 Super Cabriolet is not known. After the Second World War, it turned up in the USA, probably as a ‘souvenir’. The classic car has been restored and was part of a collection for many years. It is now up for sale. Attention must be paid to the brakes and clutch. Why not consider the rare and very elegant Steyr 120 Super instead of a Mercedes-Benz or BMW from the 1930s?
