The Phantoms have always been Rolls-Royce’s flagship models. Immediately after World War II, the market conditions were not favourable to offer Phantoms for sale, and the factory reserved the privilege to purchase a Phantom IV exclusively for royal families and heads of state. It was not until 1959 that a Phantom was introduced again, available to any customer who could afford it. This was the Phantom V, the first Phantom to benefit from the newly available 6,230 cc V8 engine, which was also featured that year in the Silver Cloud II models.
The bodywork of a Phantom was not built by the Rolls-Royce factory itself but by a coachbuilder. Most Phantom V customers commissioned their bodies from Mulliner Park Ward, a coachbuilder affiliated with the factory. True connoisseurs, however, turned to the independent coachbuilder James Young, who created an exceptionally elegant design known by its codename PV22.

The Phantom V at Classic Park is one of those highly sought-after James Young PV22 models. The car features a stately two-tone color scheme in black and deep maroon, complemented by a matching red leather interior. Between the front seats and the rear compartment is a partition (division) equipped with a multitude of accessories and functions.
There are two fold-out seats, known as provisional seats, allowing the car to accommodate up to seven passengers. The rear passengers also enjoy two fold-out tables and a drinks cabinet filled with elegant glassware. The partition further houses a classic Tiffany & Co. clock and a monitor with a video/CD/MP3 player.
When the rear armrest between the backrests is folded down, a beautifully original vanity set is revealed in the storage compartment between the seats. Opening the armrest unveils a vintage wired telephone and several control units for the audio system. On either side of the rear passengers, a radio and individual climate control units are installed.

This is just a selection of the many remarkable features of this car. Once rear passengers have explored its versatility, they will appreciate the fine leather upholstery, the vast amount of space, the exceptional ride comfort, and the beautiful woodwork. The driver and front passenger enjoy the same level of comfort. The interior is in excellent condition.
The Phantom V operates and drives as it should. In recent years, the engine has been replaced with a fully inspected unit fitted with new cylinder heads.
Accompanying the car is an extensive collection of maintenance invoices, appraisal reports, and several special, original brochures. The original owner’s manual is also present, complete with the original wiring diagrams tucked inside. The car is registered on Belgian license plates.
