Description

1934 Rolls-Royce 20/25 Gurney Nutting Owen 3 position drop head
Chassis number: GLZ75
Registration number: ALW565
Chassis number GLZ 75 was off test 10th July 1933 for supply to HR Owen as a ‘stock’ car. The chassis was delivered to Gurney Nutting & Co Ltd. on The Kings Road for Owen Sedanca Coupe Coachwork which the car still carries today. This particular body style is widely regarded as the finest design fitted to a pre-war Rolls-Royce, incorporating Gurney Nutting’s signature curvaceous wing shapes, a wonderfully proportioned body and stylish yet traditional trunk-styled boot compartment. The chassis build cards also state that the bonnet was to have vertical louvers, with bonnet hinge and mouldings to be painted and all fittings were to be ‘untarnishable’. This is exactly as the car stands today.
The car was purchased from HR Owen by its first owner, K Lucking of Boughton near Chester, who kept the car until 1954 when it was acquired by S Goddard of St. Johns Wood. In 1959, E Doughty of Abbots Leigh near Bristol bought GLZ 75 and retained the car until 1981, upon which he sold the car to The Patrick Collection, who in turn kept the car until 1999. A succession of four further owners have followed including the present owner.
We have had the pleasure of selling this car previously 7 years ago into a private Swiss collection. Prior to that the car had been supplied & maintained by P & A Wood. In the last few years a vast amount of money has been spent upon the car incliuding a full engine rebuild, new clutch & literally everything possible needing doing having been done.
A massive bill file comes with the car with bills reading like a who's who of the Rolls Royce Trade; Havey Wash, P & A Wood, Fisher Restorations, Ristes of Nottingham, Jonathan Wood to name a few.
This car is at the pinnacle of desirable 20/25 coachwork & the car is in absolutely superb order throughout, ready to be shown & to win prizes. The Masons black paint is in beautiful order having been resprayed a few years ago. To the interior is tobacco coloured leather with medium brown carpets again in lovely order. The woodwork is highly figured burr walnut & presnts very very well.
Pleasingly the car comes with a full & complete original tool kit in the fold down tray in the boot lid. There is also a plug in inspection lamp housed in the boot & a brass Lucas spare bulb holder. The car is overall in wonderful condition & a worthy contender for any collection. It is only being sold due to the advancing age of the owner & his wife whom find ingress & egress to the car becoming difficult.
This is a car needing nothing. All the lights & indicators work as they ought. The car starts instantly & runs in silence. Oil pressure is a healthy 30 lbs under load when hot. Water runs around 60 degrees. A full flow oil filter has been fitted making for easy oil changes. The car is an exceptional driver with taut play free steering & pin sharp brakes.
In stock with us now it is ready for immediate viewings.
