First sold via Percy Mears Ltd of Portland Street W1 on the 17th July 1939, just weeks before the outbreak of war. Present in the history file are the original sales invoices and correspondence between Percy Mears and the first owner, Jersey based Mr Thomas Benjamin Frederick Davis. Davis, a notable a businessman, yachtsman and philanthropist, registered the Railton to his famous Yacht, The Westward, companion yacht to the Kings own Britannia before taking her to Jersey after the war where she has resided ever since. Upon his death in 1947, accordance with his will, the mighty Yacht Westward was scuttled and sunk off Jersey. By 1975 having covered 47,000 miles, the car was purchased by the Jersey Motor Museum and was sent to England for some restoration to be undertaken, the car remained in the Museum for 27 years until its closure in 2002 at which point the car was sold to a husband and wife on Jersey who used the car for many international rallies to the Champagne region, Mont Saint Michel, Biarritz and into Spain. Some 16,641 miles having been travelled on touring holidays in the last 20 years, during our ownership the car has attended many local shows and events, still running and driving beautifully. Offered with an extremely impressive history file which includes files of handwritten letters pertaining to the car, typed letters from owners to garages regarding maintenance, many photographs of the car on her various travels across Europe and original Railton maintenance books, period showroom catalogues, and original handbooks.
