Description
The Morgan 4-4 was launched in 1936 and was Morgan’s first four-wheeled model. To this day, it remains a major part of production in Malvern Link, Great Britain. The Plus 4 model was introduced in 1951. As Morgan did not develop its own engines, various units were fitted from Standard, Triumph, FIAT, Rover and Ford, among others. Perhaps the most famous Morgan is the Plus 4 with the licence plate TOK 258, in which Chris Lawrence and Richard Shepard-Baron won their class at the 1962 24 Hours of Le Mans and finished 13th overall. To commemorate this sporting feat, Morgan built a small series of 40 copies of the winning car and called them the 4/4 Le Mans 62. With the super-light racing hardtop, they look like the TOK 258.
Our Morgan 4/4 comes from this series and was delivered to the owner of the original racing car. The two vehicles stood side by side for many years. The mileage of approx. 7,300 miles proves that the roadster has only just been run in. Of course, the racing hardtop is included. As the saying goes: ‘A Morgan never dies, it only gets rebuilt!’
