Description

n 1955 MG presented the all new MGA design. It was MG’s first completely new post-war sports car. The design was completely different and very modern compared to the previous Midget and T-types with external fenders. Gone was also the old XPAG engine that had powered many pre-war MG models. The new B-series engine from BMC of 1489 cc developed between 68 and 72 HP.

The low car with the aerodynamic body was undiscussable elegant. The design was both stylish and sporty, and the driving characteristics were significantly improved compared to the old prewar cars from the factory in Abingdon. To increase interest in the new model, MG produced 3 factory racecars in aluminum, which they entered at the Le Mans race in 1955. Two cars took part in the race and one was kept as a spare. The famous EX182 cars sensationally took 5th and 6th place in their class in the demanding 24-hour race. This gave MG both racing prestige and a reputation as mechanically strong cars.

In those days, by far the largest part of the British sports car production went to the North American market, with less than 6,000 out of more than 100,000 cars produced sold on the home and European market. Therefore, it is quite unusual that this car is Danish from new – which is very rare to see.

In 1988-1989 the car underwent an extensive and complete frame-off restoration. And by comprehensive we mean the entire car, taken apart to the smallest detail – photo documentation is available and included with the car of course. Nothing was spared, and EVERYTHING has been reviewed and restored. The big job took more than two years of work, before the car once again appeared beautiful and ready for use. No detail was missed, and many parts have been improved or replaced. For example, an engine upgrade to a 1800 MGB engine, new metal front fenders, competition high quality wire spoke rims, etc. From the vast documentation its obviously that a staggering amount was invested, with no intention to ever selling it again. Since then, the car has had only a few owners. Recent owner added nice upgrades like an aluminum radiator, electric fan, electronic ignition, new seats amongst other. But most importantly, the car is now equipped with a fully synchronized 5-speed Ford gearbox, which makes the driving experience so much better.

Combined with the more powerful engine, this is an extremely smooth-running and fast car. It has had a few loving owners over the years who have conscientious maintained the car, and it still looks incredibly beautiful to this day. The car has full “weather gear” and tonneau, and is ready to drive in the summer to meet its new owner.
