1994 | Mercedes-Benz SL 600

The Mercedes-Benz SL-Class is a grand touring sports car manufactured by Mercedes-Benz since 1954. The designation SL derives from the German Sport-Leicht (English: Sport Light).

Initially, the first 300 SL was a racing sports car built in 1952 with no intention of developing a street version. In 1954, an American importer Max Hoffman suggested the street version of 300 SL for the wealthy performance car enthusiasts in the United States where the market for the personal luxury car was booming after the Second World War.

Over the years there have been many versions of the SL with the R129 being, arguably, one of the most recognizable models to date. The model which we are presenting here today is rather special as she is the 600 SL, produced in 1994. After years of fitting the SL with a V6 or V8, Mercedes-Benz finally added a V12 to its range in 1993, the 600 SL. The 6.0L V12 is a very powerful engine with heaps of torque. Perfect for a luxury sports car. Our SL was initially exported to Japan, where she has spent most of her life. We love Japanese owned cars as they are very well looked after by their owners. As is the case with ours. She was later exported to Italy, where we purchased her with only 89.000 kms since new.

The first thing to catch your attention is her stunning specification of navy blue paint with a blue canvas top and blue interior. A very classy configuration, which suits this car very well. Her paintwork is in excellent condition throughout, as is her electrically folding roof. Our personal favourite thing? The original satin painted bumpers that contrast nicely with the shiny paintwork. The R129 version of the SL is the only model to have bumpers like this. Inside you will find an interior that shows how low mileage she really is. With only 90.000 kms since new, she has barely run in yet. Her interior is in excellent condition, with all of the features working. Also the folding roof works flawlessly. This 600 SL still has the original radio installed.

Mechanically she is ready for any kind of adventure. Whether it is an Alpine Pass or cruising along the French Riviera, she is the perfect car for this. Her engine is a great running example. We believe that she still has almost all of her bhp from 1994, that is how well she runs. She did receive a new multi v-belt by us just in case. Mated to this powerful engine is a smooth shifting automatic gearbox that can easily put the power down to the road. Her suspension, steering, etc. is all in good working condition. Which is not surprising for the mileage. We have installed new tires as the previous ones were from 2000. Mechanically she is ready for many more fun miles.
