1994 | Mercedes-Benz SL 600 6.0 AMG
Description
• Pre-merger AMG with rare full factory documentation
• 6.0L naturally aspirated V12 (441 hp)
• One of fewer than 50 SL 600 AMGs ever built
The Mercedes-Benz SL 600 AMG belongs to a very particular and highly desirable chapter in the brand’s history: the short pre-merger period when AMG was already working closely with Stuttgart but had not yet been fully integrated. Between 1992 and 1994, only a handful of cars left the factory equipped with genuine AMG upgrades, supported by full documentation in the Mercedes-Benz archives. This 1994 example is one of those very rare cars.
Completed in December 1993 and delivered new to Japan in January 1994, it received the complete Affalterbach treatment from day one. The official and extremely rare AMG certificate confirms a package covering all key areas: powertrain, exterior design, and instrumentation.
At its heart lies the M120 V12 — not a V6, not a V8, but the flagship engine of its era — enlarged to 6.0 liters and fitted with AMG camshafts and reworked cylinder heads. Output rose from 389 to 441 hp, a 13% increase achieved entirely without forced induction. This same naturally aspirated engine would later find its way into the Pagani Zonda, underlining its significance as one of the most iconic V12s of its era. Here, it is matched to the understated yet elegant lines of the R129 roadster. Further AMG features include a specific exhaust system, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, rear spoiler, 17-inch multi-piece AMG wheels, and an AMG speedometer. This was never about cosmetics alone, but about building a complete and balanced package. The car is finished in Brilliant Silver Metallic with Anthracite Exclusive Leather, accompanied by its factory hardtop and original soft top. Japanese-market specification ensured a high level of equipment, with Adaptive Damping System, heat-insulating glass, infrared central locking, and premium audio among the highlights. Today the odometer shows 84,163 km, fully verified by the official Belgian Car-Pass. The car has passed Belgian technical inspection without remarks and is certified until 2027. Its condition is consistent with its mileage and careful ownership history.
In total, fewer than 50 SL 600 AMGs were built in this specification, making it one of the rarest V12 AMGs of the pre-merger era. Combining rarity, documentation, performance, and the direct link to the legendary Pagani Zonda engine, this example represents a genuine collector’s opportunity.
