Description
1974 Jensen Interceptor S Cabriolet V8 – The British Gentleman with an American Heart
Some cars are loud. Some are fast. And then there’s the Jensen Interceptor S Cabriolet – a car not simply to be driven, but to be celebrated. It’s not just a classic, it’s a statement. A cocktail of British charm, American muscle, and masterful craftsmanship, mixed exactly 50 times. And this one? Number 9. The only left-hand-drive convertible version in the world.
A story that begins in England – and continues in France
In 2007, Cropredy Bridge – a restoration workshop with Aston Martin DNA – took on something truly special: the rebirth of the Interceptor Mk III. Not a cheap replica, but a modern homage to one of the most underrated GTs of the 1970s.
What followed was not a restoration, but a reinvention: the original Chrysler V8 was swapped, the chassis completely re-engineered, and British elegance preserved. My father commissioned the project personally. Since then, the car has remained in family ownership, serviced in both England and France. 21,000 kilometres only – each one a celebration of driving culture.
Engineering that amazes – or simply astonishes
Forget everything you know about classic GTs. Here’s the spec sheet of a modern muscle coupé in black tie:
- Engine: 6.0L GM LS2 V8 (414 hp)
- Transmission: 4-speed automatic with overdrive
- Suspension: Double wishbones front, independent rear, fully adjustable dampers
- Brakes: AP Racing – 330 mm front with 6-piston calipers, 280 mm rear
- Differential: Limited-slip, of course
In short: this Jensen looks like 1974, but drives like a 2007 Corvette GT. Classic style, modern performance – all under the open sky, with wind in your hair and V8 thunder at your back.
Design – Understatement meets Muscle
Dark blue metallic paint gleaming like evening attire. A black fabric roof, chrome details, and 17-inch factory-look alloys wrapped in fat Pirellis. Cohesive, elegant, timeless.
Inside: beige leather with quilted inserts, matching carpets, a black dashboard with Smiths dials.
And those little touches: door-mounted ashtrays, push-button starter, a modern Sony unit with iPod dock – the perfect blend of old school and new.
Condition & History – lovingly maintained
Since completion in 2008, the car has been serviced exclusively by Cropredy Bridge and French specialists. In 2022 it received fresh fluids, rear brake pads, detailing, and interior care.
Yes, there’s a tiny scratch in the paint and some patina on the driver’s seat. But like every true gentleman – character comes with age.
Conclusion – More than rare, more than special
This isn’t just one of 50. It is the only left-hand-drive Interceptor S Cabriolet on the planet. A one-off. A true unique piece. A rolling tribute to what car building can achieve when no compromises are made.
If you’re looking for a car that sparks more conversations than any Ferrari and carries more character than an entire generation of German engineering – this is the one.
