Description

Chrome, Charm & Character – 1958 the Jaguar XK150 S Drophead Coupé

With the introduction of the XK120, Jaguar helped popularize the post-war sports car. Over the course of the 1950s, the iconic model was gradually refined and made more comfortable, culminating in the final iteration released in 1957: the XK150.

The XK150, with its long bonnet and flowing lines, embodies the quintessential open-top British sports car. Compared to earlier models, the final version features slightly less pronounced front fenders - partly a reflection of changing design trends in the late 1950s, and partly to increase cabin space. The XK150 also introduced winding side windows in place of the earlier, less practical side screens - an upgrade driven especially by demand from the U.S., Jaguar’s most important export market at the time.

This particular XK150 was delivered to Jaguar Cars in New York City on November 8, 1957. In the late 1980s, the car was imported to Germany, where it underwent a full restoration including both bodywork and mechanical components. The original exterior color, Cream, was changed to Black, and the interior was also reworked. A comprehensive photographic record and nearly all invoices from the restoration - totalling DM 189,000 - are included, as well as subsequent service documents.

Today, the XK150 presents in excellent condition, featuring a new convertible top. For enhanced driving comfort, the current owner has fitted modern bucket seats.
