When the XJ220 was announced at the end of the 1980s as a direct competitor to Bugatti, Ferrari, Porsche and McLaren, Jaguar could hardly keep up with the orders. Of the 350 examples originally planned, there were more than 1,500 interested parties prepared to pay the astronomical price of over DM 1 million at the time.

However, the car, which was more elegant than the EB110 and McLaren F1 and faster than the F40 and 959, was abruptly brought to a halt by the economic crisis of 1992/93. Many of the original buyers backed out, also because Jaguar would not build the car with a V12 and all-wheel drive after all, as had once been announced.

The XJ220 is enormous—5 metres long and 2.2 metres wide—and even standing still, it looks like Le Mans and 350 km/h.

It is extremely difficult to drive on narrow roads because of its width; city traffic and congestion are challenging because the clutch, brakes and steering are extremely heavy.

On open mountain passes or an empty, winding motorway, however, it unleashes its full potential: as soon as boost pressure builds, it surges forward with explosive force and wild turbo noises. Even by today's standards, its performance is impressive:

0–100 km/h in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of approx. 350 km/h

This made the XJ220 the fastest production car in the world. It was not until 1998 that McLaren broke this record with a modified F1.

But the XJ220 was also unbeatable on the racetrack at the time. It lapped the Nürburgring Nordschleife in a sensational 7:46 minutes—a record that would stand for almost a decade.

Despite these impressive figures, only 281 examples of the XJ220 were ultimately produced. The customers had probably expected a comfortable sports car rather than a road-legal Group C racing car.

Our XJ220 was built in April 1993 and was one of the cars that initially remained at the factory because there was no buyer. Even with substantial discounts, Jaguar needed until 1997 to sell the last XJ220 from its stock.

In May 1996, our car, painted in Spa Silver, finally found a home. It went to Germany to a professional athlete and collector of exclusive vehicles.

The car remained in this ownership for the last 30 years. All documents, TÜV inspection reports, owner's manuals and the original accessories are available.

The Jaguar was always registered and, although rarely, driven regularly.

The grey leather interior, like the entire car, is in fantastic and untouched original condition. The original Bridgestone “Expedia” tyres, developed specifically for the XJ220 at the time, are still fitted.

There are no longer many examples available in this condition. After its bumpy start, the XJ220 has increasingly developed into one of the most sought-after collector cars in recent years and is well on its way to matching the price level of its former competitors, the EB110, F40 and 959.
