Description

Commonly referred to as Britain’s first Hypercar the Jaguar XJ220 has been increasingly recognised in recent years as a significant icon of the Jaguar brand. With highly accomplished performance and undoubtedly dramatic styling, the lightweight, 542 bhp, Jaguar XJ220, a poster car for a generation, is as sensational to look at as it is to drive.

The rare example we are offering is finished in Daytona Black with Smoke Grey Connolly hides. One of less than 70 examples built to Right Hand Drive specifications and reportedly is one of only 18 in total, to be finished in the highly attractive Daytona Black paint colour.

Recorded with 6,900 miles covered and delivered to its first owner in 1992, one of ten commissioned by and supplied to His Majesty the Sultan of Brunei, this low mileage and rare RHD example of the Jaguar XJ220, was re-imported to UK from Brunei in 1999, having covered just 2,360 miles. Thereafter serviced and maintained for its new UK based owner by Jaguar main agents in Edinburgh between 1999 and 2006.

Purchased and subsequently resold in 2008 by renowned sports and racing car specialists Oakfield’s of Hampshire with 6,000 miles recorded, the car was relocated with the new owner to Hong Kong, where the car remained unregistered and professionally stored. Purchased in Hong Kong by the last owner in 2014, the car remained in storage before being re-imported to the UK and subsequently entrusted for servicing and maintenance, to globally renowned Jaguar XJ220 specialist engineers Don Law in Staffordshire, UK.

Most notably, a significant overhaul and fitment of established upgrades have been carried out by Don Law to this car, completed in 2022. Significant works included the fitment of new fuel tank foams, new fuel pumps and hoses, new engine cylinder head gaskets and timing belts, a brakes system overhaul and upgrade, a suspension rebuild, fitment of a new clutch, all transmission seals and gaskets replaced, coolant system and heater hoses replaced, vehicle electrics overhauled and the air conditioning system serviced and a new compressor fitted. In all, some £110k was spent on overhauling this Icon of the Jaguar brand, for its last owner to fully enjoy. A comprehensive set of detailed and itemised invoices from specialist Don Law for the above works, are included within the car’s history file.

First shown in 1988 at the Birmingham International Motor Show, the Jaguar XJ220 was an instant success with over a thousand applications for the 275 cars which would ultimately be built, under the supervision of Jaguar racing legend Tom Walkinshaw, at the newly established Jaguar Motorsport facilities in Bloxham, Oxfordshire. With a top speed of over 215 mph and weighing in at just 1500 kgs, the XJ220 was built to motorsport standards, well demonstrated by a trio of mildly modified race prepared XJ220’s being entered into the 1993 Le Mans 24 hr race. Factory entered and run by Tom Walkinshaw Racing, team car number 50, driven by Coulthard, Brabham and Nielsen, took the class win in the 24-hour race, before a minor technical disqualification.

Offered for sale directly from a routine service, maintenance and MoT test, completed by Don Law, the car is accompanied by a bound history file including a Jaguar statement of build date and type approval number, a JDHT certificate and detailed servicing and maintenance Don Law invoices from 2022 onwards, along with an XJ220 Owners Handbook and XJ220 tool kit.
