Description

If there’s one saloon that could be mentioned in the same breath as a Rolls-Royce without flinching, it’s the Jaguar Mk X. Built for the upper class, driven by rock stars, statesmen, and those who fancied themselves as both.

History – The British answer to Cadillac In the early ’60s, Jaguar wanted to prove that they could build not only fast sports cars but also limousines with more class than a three-course meal at a gentlemen’s club. The Mk X was Coventry’s flagship: wide, long, low – and simply majestic.

Under the bonnet beats the 3.8-litre straight-six from the legendary E-Type. Not quite 265 hp, but plenty of torque to bring the Queen to tea – or dominate the left lane of the Autobahn.

Technical highlights This Mk X isn’t a museum piece but a rolling testament to meticulous maintenance:

Engine and gearbox serviced, fresh oil and filters

Carburettors rebuilt, ignition overhauled – purrs like a polite cat

Aluminium high-capacity radiator – because heat belongs in the fireplace

Brake system renewed: 8 new calipers, discs, hoses, master cylinder

Michelin tyres for proper grip

Fuel tanks treated, new electric pumps

New suspension bushes all round – comfort like an armchair

And yes, almost no oil leaks – British charm meets German precision

Driving experience – Gentleman on speed Despite its size (over five metres!), it drives like a compact GT. Light power steering, smooth automatic shifts – until you floor it, and the big cat growls with authority.

Interior – A living room on wheels Inside, a perfectly preserved time capsule: original seats and carpets, near immaculate wood trim, and that unmistakable cigar-box aroma. The original radio still works – tuned to the ghosts of “Radio Luxembourg.”

Body – British Racing Green perfection That colour alone is a statement. The lines – elegant as a Savile Row tuxedo. Two minor imperfections, but no rust, no nonsense. Chrome shines like Sean Connery’s smile in Goldfinger.

Conclusion The Jaguar Mk X is not just transport – it’s a lifestyle. For those who don’t need a sports car to make an impression, only style, wit, and a parking space large enough to fit British greatness.
