Synonymous with the swinging '60's and the hit TV series, Inspector Morse, the Jaguar Mk. II saloon has been used as a vehicle to transport everyone from dignitaries and politicians to bank robbers and the criminal select. Desirable due to being a well-balanced saloon car with space for four adults and a good size boot, it also boasts engine options including the mighty Jaguar 3.8 litre power unit; small wonder it became popular as a getaway vehicle. When released, traditional Jaguar buyers had no need to feel alienated by the new offering from Coventry, as the interior was up to their usual standards with leather and walnut being the order of the day. With 112bhp available, the 2.4 was not overly burdened with pace but, importantly, coupled to a manual gearbox with overdrive, it was the more frugal of the range yet still gave the driver the ability to utilise the full range of the 2.4 engine. Presented in Old English White with a burgundy trim, this lovely right hand drive example of the Mk. II boasts the manual with overdrive gearbox and has spent much of its life in the warmer climes of Cyprus, having been imported back into the UK in 2015. When purchased it was rumoured that it had been personally owned by the President of Cyprus. Sadly, nothing in the paperwork corroborates this, but it was certainly well looked after. The bodywork is in very good order as is the trim which boasts later, fully retrimmed XJ6 reclining seats as a more comfortable option (the originals are available at no additional cost should the buyer wish to collect). Owned and cherished by our owner since 2016, the vehicle has had a constant and high level of maintenance, with a raft of work carried out by classic car specialists, Runnymede Motor Company, including a full comprehensive overhaul in 2017, involving servicing the overdrive before stripping and rebuilding the carbs later that year. In 2018, the car was again serviced and has been used on high days and holidays since then. It was serviced again in 2022 and, at around the same time, was undersealed with the aim of preventing rust. Recently, it has been treated to new clutch slave and master cylinders in readiness for sale. Over £10,000 has been spent on upgrades and maintenance since 2016 and the car certainly matches that. Offered with a current Mot test certificate, this is a very attractive example of the Mk. II and should be seen to be fully appreciated. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
