  • Drives exceptionally well

Our 1952 Hudson Wasp is a rare and remarkably well-kept example from the very first year of production—offering a compelling blend of originality, performance, and provenance. This particular car is equipped with the seldom-seen factory Twin-H-Power carburetor system, a desirable upgrade that boosted performance by up to 20%, making the Wasp a surprisingly quick and capable performer for its era.

The Wasp replaced Hudson’s Super Custom in 1952 and was developed as a more affordable sibling to the iconic Hornet. Built on the advanced “Monobilt” step-down chassis, it offered excellent structural rigidity, a lower center of gravity, and improved safety. These attributes, along with Hudson’s reputation for engineering excellence, helped cement the Wasp’s appeal among buyers—and later, collectors.

Finished in its correct factory colour of Boston Ivory with an untouched tan cord interior, this example tells a particularly special story. First sold new in Ohio, it was purchased by Mr. Howell in the early 1960s with fewer than 16,000 miles on the clock. He cherished the car for decades, repainting it once in its original colour and fitting it with 1954-style hubcaps. Upon his passing, the Wasp stayed within the family before changing hands in 2009, when a light mechanical recommissioning was carried out—this included a fuel system flush, radiator rebuild, brake overhaul, and fresh exhaust work. Much of the chrome trim was also refinished at the time.

he car was later acquired by the Academy of Art University Collection in 2012 and remained in their care until recently. Now proudly offered by DD Classics, it shows just 18,723 miles at the time of cataloguing. The interior remains largely untouched and beautifully preserved, right down to the original carpets, headliner, and upholstery.

On the road, this Hudson performs far beyond expectations for a car of its era. The Twin-H-Power setup delivers strong acceleration and smooth operation, while the car’s ride quality is composed and confidence-inspiring. In every sense, it drives very, very well—offering a rare chance to experience post-war American motoring at its best.

An outstanding and authentic piece of Hudson history, ready to be driven and appreciated.
