Description
Pininfarina Spider 124DS, built in 1985, 1981cc, 77kW / 105hp
The last of its kind
When the FIAT 124 Sport Spider was introduced in mid-1966, no one could have imagined that this model would become so successful that it would be produced in various generations for 19 years, until 1985.
The 124 Spider, too, owed its success to a combination of attractive design (Pininfarina), future-proof technology (including a twin-camshaft engine with timing belt), good everyday usability, and sustained model refinement.
In its final years—from 1982 to 1985—the Spider finally changed its name. During this time, FIAT commissioned the design studio and coachbuilding company Pininfarina to build the 124 Spider.
The vehicles of this era are externally recognizable by their Farina logos on the hood, trunk lid, and wheel center caps.
Our 124 Spider is one such Pininfarina – according to its chassis number, the 10th and last 124 Spider ever produced.
The success of this vehicle was no accident, as you can sense after just a short drive in the Spider.
The powerful, high-revving engine, the precise and smooth rack-and-pinion steering, and a foolproof, sporty – yet also quite comfortable – chassis make the drive a pleasure.
The Spider's special qualities particularly come to the fore on longer journeys, which the crew covers with as little fatigue as is possible in a classic open-top vehicle.
Compared to modern roadsters, the 124 Spider also scores points with the ability to accommodate even larger luggage in the spacious trunk and on the rear jump seats.
Its convertible top is incredibly easy to operate and can be opened and closed in just a few seconds.
Our Spider has always been well looked after by its owner – and so the car is in very good condition.
The car boasts a straight body with good gaps, as well as original Cromodora CD 167 aluminum rims.
The interior, with its genuine leather seats, is in its original condition and also in very good condition. Its fabric convertible top is clean, undamaged, and has a clear rear window.
The engine, transmission, steering, brakes – everything works perfectly and appears well-maintained. It's great fun to drive this agile Spider along winding country roads.
In 2006, the Spider was upgraded with a retrofit catalytic converter (Euro 2 according to the vehicle registration document), so a H-registration was not required until then.
We are handing over the Spider with a fresh MOT and a valuation report for your insurance.
We'd be happy to offer a competitive quote for transport to your home.
Final note: The speedometer for the US market displays the speed in miles in large white numbers, while the speed in kilometers is clearly visible in smaller, yellow numbers. The odometer shows 116,800 miles.
