Description

1926 Delage DISS Cadogan Tourer NE7354
Registration Number: NE7354
Chassis Number: 18950
This is a 2121cc 4 cylinder 4 speed 4 seat tourer with original body by Cadogan.
The current owner of some 53 years bought the car disassembled in 1973 and spent the next 45 years rebuilding the car to the correct specification, including a full mechanical rebuild of the engine & mechanicals. There are detailed records & invoices of all work carried out. Restoration covered 2000 hours of work and some £100,00 in value has been spent on the car. Two note books dating form 1970's to present day come with the car detailing what has been done & when.
The inside of the body panels are original leather and new seats, tonneau and hood have been made to a high standard. The car is capable of 60 mph cruising speed, with the brakes and handling well able to safely cope with modern motoring. This model is regarded as the best DI model, as well as being simple with magneto ignition and thermosyphon cooling. The DISS was only made for one year and the wheels were changed from beaded edge in 1925 to wellbase in 1926. The chassis is particularly low for the period with the second S in the models designation standing for “Surbaissée”
The Delage DIS was the high-performance version of the DI, from which it retained the essential qualities – robustness and meticulous manufacture with higher performance. Buoyed by the success of the DIS, Delage went even further with the DISS, the second “S” standing for “Surbaissée”, in 1925. Delage manufactured around 400 DISS models making this a very rare car indeed.
In the last few years it has featured in two Downton Abbey films as Branson’s car, featuring in extensive publicity for the first film. It was also in a BBC2 television series, Life After Life. Being a car with conventional pedal positions and indicators it was easy for the actors to get the hang of driving it!
The original licence book goes back to 1949.
This is a car that is fully sorted & wants for nothing. It has been used on several long tours & performed them with aplomb. It presents beautifully with a light patination of use & superb original leather to the door cars.
