Description
BMW Z8 – More than a car. A family legend on four wheels.
There are cars that are simply means of transport. And then there are machines that tell entire life stories. This Z8 belongs firmly in the second category – built to carry on a legacy, driven to create memories, and now ready to start a new chapter.
History – From the 507 to the Z8: When legends have offspring
It all began in the 1950s when Marc’s father – an internationally renowned graphic designer with an unfailing sense of aesthetics – owned one of just 252 BMW 507s ever built. A car so beautiful it should have been illegal.
Decades later, in 1999, Marc learned that BMW was launching the Z8, catapulting the spirit of the 507 into a new millennium. Marc knew instantly: this car had to be part of the family. So he sent an employee to find one.
As with all good things in life, it took a while. But on September 6, 2001, the moment came: this example was purchased brand new in the USA. The only issue: paperwork. So over the years, the car officially changed hands several times – from Marc’s employee to two Luxembourg companies founded solely to sort out European registration. But in reality, Marc always retained custody.
Engineering – A super sports car that refuses to age
Under the hood lies the legendary 5-liter V8 from the M5 – an engine that delivers 400 hp with such understatement you might forget how unbelievably fast this car really is.
✅ 5.0 liter V8 – no downsizing, no turbo fuss, just genuine power
✅ Six-speed manual transmission – for those who don’t leave driving to a machine
✅ Aluminum spaceframe – lighter than it looks, stiffer than you’d believe
Condition – A time-capsule Z8
The car spent its first ten years almost entirely in storage – when it moved to Europe in 2011, it had only 6,467 miles on the clock.
Since then, it’s been treated like a rare wine: occasionally uncorked in Italy on fine days, always serviced by BMW, and otherwise carefully preserved. Today, the odometer shows just about 1,000 miles per year added – a nearly pristine condition.
✅ Body in excellent shape – no dents, no scratches except for the hood, which was lightly damaged by hail in 2011, professionally repaired and perfectly repainted then (hence the slightly higher paint thickness)
✅ Titanium Silver (354) – a color that always looks discreetly luxurious
✅ Interior like new – black leather without cracks, cuts or significant wear
✅ Top flawless – no fading, no wear
Driving experience – The gentleman among supercars
The Z8 starts without hesitation, runs as smoothly as if it just came back from a wellness retreat, and when you step on the gas, proves that 400 hp have lost none of their fascination over two decades. The original three-spoke steering wheel fits perfectly in your hands, and the seats still feel like a tailored suit.
Only flaw: the front right rim has a few scratches – a gentle reminder that even perfection sometimes wears a little patina.
Conclusion – A BMW Z8 is not a car. It’s a statement.
Only 5,703 examples were ever built worldwide. But few tell such a thoroughly personal story as this one – from a father whose 507 inspired it, to a son who spent nearly two decades preserving it.
Marc has decided it’s time to pass on the Z8 fascination to new hands. Hands that understand a car like this isn’t simply purchased – it’s adopted.
And if you think you can treat this car like any ordinary roadster – think again. The Z8 isn’t a commodity. It’s a piece of living history, ready for the next generation.
The Car is registered in Luxemburg with a Titre Isolé
