Description

-BMW opens new doors to space economy. - BMW

And they took that quite literally. BMW, like the rest of Germany, was in a period of reconstruction under the sanctions of the USA and USSR. It also didn't help that only the factories in Munich were still available, the rest fell on the wrong side of the wall for BMW as a capitalist and liberal brand. In response to the recession, they teamed up with Renzo Rivolta, an Italian refrigerator manufacturer, to produce the BMW 300 and 600 Isetta. The Italian manufacturer had invented a dwarf car with a refrigerator door, to save space. BMW, in turn, fitted it with a motorbike engine from the BMW R25/3. Thus, in 1955, the first Isetta was born.

The end result? How cute! A happy face formed from the headlights and bumper, and a prosperous belly to fit the legs. With its tiny wheels and adorable little parts, this is downright an endearing little car. The 600cc two-cylinder boxer engine purrs contentedly in revs to the extreme power of 19.5 HP. Your neighbour's 2CV will have to watch out at the traffic lights!

And ours? Just as you would expect from us. An Isetta 600 in original colors. Completely matching, just totally nut&bolt restored. Options? Certainly. The gear lock. Of course the original key is still present. Looking for an original alternative to a 500, Mehari or 2CV to fetch French bread in the village? This BMW fits the bill. Bis bald!
