1998 | BMW 540i Touring

For sale: BMW 540i E39 in “490 Santorin Blue Special Paint” with full “Nappa Grey” leather interior. The vehicle was imported from Montagnola, Switzerland, acquired from the heir of the original owner. It is preserved in very good condition with normal signs of use and age.

Swiss racing driver couldn’t settle for an ordinary BMW. In 1998, he ordered a 540i Touring for his villa in Montagnola on Lake Lugano in a truly unique configuration. The entire car was built as a “Sonderwunsch” (special request) through BMW Individual. Both the exterior paint and interior were custom selections. The car also features stunning violet-toned natural wood trim, made specially for him.

After taking delivery at the BMW plant in Dingolfing, the owner carried out several modifications:

• Installation of performance shocks and springs

• Sports catalytic converters and O2 sensors

• Wide-lip alloy wheels by Italian manufacturer Fondmetal

• The engine, as a passion project (he was an engine designer), was disassembled, heads were worked, and performance camshafts were installed.

Only one BMW E39 exists in this configuration. The car was regularly used between 1998 and 2010. After the owner’s passing, it remained in storage. We first came across the vehicle in 2014, and in 2020, we managed to acquire it for our collection. Today, it still drives phenomenally and stands out clearly among the many “typical” E39s out there.

Body:
Well-preserved overall, with no visible damage, though some minor age-related wear is present. No visible rust in the typical E39 trouble spots. Undercarriage and wheel arches are clean, free from corrosion or damage. All exterior trims and lights are in very good condition.

Interior:
Fully original with only light wear. The leather upholstery is in excellent condition and still looks great. Steering wheel and gear selector are in perfect shape—no damage or heavy wear. The unique interior wood trim remains beautiful, scratch-free and intact. Factory velour floor mats included. All plastics are intact and undamaged. Seat electrics are functional, and the headliner is not sagging.

Wheels & Tires:
Original Fondmetal alloys in perfect condition, fitted with a good set of summer tires.

Recent maintenance work (in our workshop):

• Engine oil & filter changed 4 times since 2020 (last: Millers 5W-40 on 08.05.2025)

• New air and cabin filters

• New OE BMW hood struts

• New fuel filter and rubber lines

• New water pump and thermostat

• Valve cover gaskets replaced

• Fuel tank cleaned and pump checked

• New original BMW A/C compressor, new dryer, full A/C service incl. o-rings & recharge, interior ozone treatment (700 EUR at a specialist)

• New NGK spark plugs

• Wheel balancing

• Various OEM BMW small parts (approx. 900 EUR total)

• New wiper blades

• Full xenon headlight restoration (400 EUR by a specialist)

• Power steering fluid flush and refill

• Automatic transmission oil, filter & pan gasket replaced

• New battery (December 2024)

• Full paint correction & ceramic coating 1000 EUR (April 2025)
