Description

Design & Model History
The iconic BMW E9 series, including the celebrated BMW 3.0 CSi, was designed under the direction of Wilhelm Hofmeister, renowned for the signature "Hofmeister kink." The E9 lineage began with the BMW 2800 CS and evolved into the more refined 3.0 CS and fuel-injected 3.0 CSi. Between 1971 and 1975, BMW also produced the lightweight homologation special, the 3.0 CSL. As a result of the oil crisis, the final years of production saw the introduction of the 2.5 CS, a lower-powered variant with 150 hp.

Exterior
This particular BMW 3.0 CSi has recently undergone a high-quality repaint, preserving its timeless style while enhancing its presentation. While the model was originally offered in a variety of classic 1970s colors, many enthusiasts consider Polaris Silver paired with a blue velvet interior—like this example—as one of the most striking combinations. Small areas of rust were professionally repaired, and the body now presents in excellent condition. The original chrome bumpers remain in remarkably good condition, and new aluminum trim has been fitted around the car. Rubber seals and window trim around both front and rear screens have also been replaced. The car is currently equipped with a set of original 16” Alpina wheels, enhancing both its stance and performance.

Interior
Finding a BMW 3.0 CSi with an interior as original and well-preserved as this one is increasingly rare. The factory cloth seats remain in excellent condition and are a strong indicator of the car's authenticity and careful ownership. The carpeting appears original, showing only light wear consistent with age. The wood veneer across the dash and center console is in beautiful condition, and all seat trim presents with only minimal signs of use. The car features its original working radio, manual front window winders, and electric rear windows.

Engine & Mechanics
Under the hood, this BMW 3.0 CSi features an original BMW factory exchange engine block, marked with the “X” designation. Mechanical condition is strong—the engine pulls smoothly and delivers excellent performance, while the manual gearbox shifts cleanly and confidently. Recent work completed in 2024 focused primarily on cosmetic restoration, including new paint, new exterior trim, and refurbished chrome bumpers. The driving dynamics remain sharp, with solid braking and confident handling.

Provenance & Documentation
This 1972 BMW 3.0 CSi was imported to Sweden in 1976 and has a well-documented ownership history. Throughout the years, it has been serviced regularly, often by authorized BMW workshops. The car has changed hands six times in total, including transfers through dealers. It is accompanied by original handbooks in both German and Swedish. A set of original wheels with Michelin tires is also included in the sale.
