The Alvis Duncan is a rare and elegant example of postwar British automotive craftsmanship, representing the collaboration between Alvis Cars of Coventry and the coachbuilder Duncan Industries of North Walsham. Following World War II, Alvis resumed production with a focus on refinement and engineering excellence, offering chassis' that could be fitted with bespoke coachwork from independent builders. Duncan, a smaller firm known for its lightweight, aerodynamic designs, produced only a limited number of bodies for Alvis, making these cars especially sought after today. The Alvis Duncan was typically based on the TA14 chassis, a 1.9-litre, four-cylinder saloon platform known for its reliability and smooth performance. The Duncan body was constructed primarily of lightweight aluminium over a wooden frame, an innovative approach for the time that contributed to its graceful proportions and improved fuel efficiency. The styling blended traditional pre-war elegance with hints of modern aerodynamics, featuring sweeping fenders, a long bonnet, and a gently sloping rear end. Inside, the car offered the luxury expected of an Alvis: leather upholstery, polished wood trim, and meticulous attention to detail. Although performance was modest compared to later Alvis models, the Duncan-bodied cars were admired for their refined handling and quiet sophistication. With fewer than two dozen examples believed to have been produced, surviving Alvis Duncans are exceptionally rare.

Originally registered on 11th June 1948 this Alvis Duncan presents well in red/black coachwork. It has been restored, with photographic evidence of the work carried out. A good history file accompanies this Alvis, with history dating back to 1958 and a list of owners going back to 1948. There is a green continuation log book offering a plethora of information. We are advised the 1892cc engine runs well and the car drives with no known faults. An Alvis Duncan is a rarely seen car, today, they stand as exquisite reminders of a transitional era in British motoring, when craftsmanship and individuality defined the finest automobiles on the road.
