Description

Number 88 of only 402 units built

The Alfa Junior Zagato 1600 GT was produced by the Italian coachbuilder Zagato from 1969 to 1975. The still breathtaking design was created by Ercole Spada. The technology was largely derived from the Alfa Romeo Giulia, and the body was manufactured at Zagato, where final assembly also took place. It was first presented at the 1969 Turin Motor Show. Our Alfa is from the second series, called the GT 1600 (Type 115.24), and only 402 units were produced from 1972 to 1975. The body design was far ahead of its time (the similarly designed Honda CRX, for example, only came onto the market much later). Thanks to its excellent aerodynamics, the vehicle achieved a top speed of 185 km/h.

Our Zagato is a one-owner-car. In the spring of 1973, the car was ordered from the authorized Alfa dealer "Auto Fox" in Mainz by its sole owner to date, and delivered in the summer of '73. The Alfa was used as a third vehicle, alongside two other cars, primarily for excursions and vacations. After 1980, the car was used only sporadically.

In 1985, it was decommissioned and stored in a dry, safe place under a cover in a garage next to the house until 2004. In 2005, it was revived, with the chassis, engine, and drivetrain being overhauled by Rybak in Mainz.

These included:

Engine, transmission, propeller shaft, and rear axle inspected and serviced. All oils were changed.

Chassis partially renewed Brake system renewed, new brake calipers and pads installed

Exhaust system renewed Underbody cleaned and coated with protective paint Weber twin carburetors overhauled

Headliner renewed by a specialist, and interior reconditioned and cleaned Seats reupholstered and installed in genuine leather

New seals for windows and doors installed

Vehicle repainted in original color by a specialist

Since being put back into service on June 23, 2006, the Zagato has been driven sparingly but regularly. After repeated thermal problems, the engine was overhauled at 82,659 kilometers, and the radiator was replaced. Since then, the Alfa has run perfectly.

The current and truly original mileage is 86,200. In recent years, several improvements/additions have been made to the vehicle, including the installation of an electric fuel pump to resolve starting problems after extended periods of inactivity, the installation of seat belts, an oil temperature gauge with a sensor in the dipstick tube, and the removal of the bumper (which the owner found visually unsightly) (the original bumper is present and included).

The vehicle's history is comprehensively documented in a well-filled Leitz binder.

With the legendary and high-revving Alfa Romeo 1.6-liter engine with two overhead camshafts and two dual carburetors, the Zagato accelerates with great enthusiasm. Combined with the perfectly tuned 5-speed manual transmission and the finely tuned chassis, it's a real joy to drive, especially on winding mountain roads. There's no question that this Alfa is not only a design icon, it also delivers tremendous driving pleasure. The typical Alfa sound of the engine is captivating.

We'll deliver the Alfa ready for immediate use, complete with a valid MOT and a Classic Data valuation for submission to your insurance provider. We're happy to offer a competitive quote for transport to your garage.
