Well-preserved early R230 – Excellent M113 V8 – Enthusiast-owned
This Mercedes-Benz SL 500 is an early example of the R230 generation, manufactured in 2001 and first registered on 14 January 2002.
I have driven and cared for the car since 2012. It has mainly been used during the warmer months and has been kept away from salted winter roads.
With 180,120 km, the car remains in very good overall condition for its age. The 5.0-litre M113 V8 runs beautifully, smoothly and reliably.
The retractable hardtop is fully operational.
The black leather interior is exceptionally well preserved. The leather is free from cracks or tears, and the cabin reflects the care the car has received over the years. The vehicle has always been strictly non-smoking; no animals have been transported and no food has been consumed inside the car.

Known issues
The ABC (Active Body Control) suspension currently remains in the raised position and the vehicle cannot be lowered. The car is driveable, but the ABC system requires repair. Mercedes-Benz has informed me that the required component is no longer supplied through their network, so the repair will need to be carried out by a specialist familiar with the R230/ABC system.
In addition, one suspension component will need replacement in the near future.
These issues have deliberately been described transparently so that a prospective buyer knows exactly what to expect.
The car is therefore particularly suited to a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast or R230 specialist who appreciates the M113 V8 and is prepared to undertake the required suspension work.
Despite the work required, this remains a beautiful, elegant and remarkably enjoyable SL 500, with a superb engine, a very well-preserved interior and a fully functioning retractable hardtop.
The vehicle is currently registered and located in Switzerland.
