This matching numbers 1970 Iso Grifo 7-litre Series 1 is one of only 17 manual-gearbox versions ever produced.
As stated on its build sheet, this Iso was manufactured in February 1970 in ‘Rubino Rosso’ with a white interior, and was intended for the Swiss importer. Sold immediately in Belgium, where it was most likely entered in the Zoute Concours in 1971, it was then sold in 1977 to Mr Jean-François Dumontant, a legendary classic car enthusiast and dealer from Limoges area, known for having saved many legendary cars from oblivion. He traded the Grifo in 1998 for a De Tomaso Mangusta. In 2002, Franckie Dumontant reacquired the Iso, which had undergone an unfinished restoration. The current owner has known this car since the Dumontant years; he became a co-owner in 2008 and, keen to restore the car to its original splendour, decided to undertake a major restoration. The ZF gearbox was restored in May 2013, whilst the bodywork was rebuilt in France. However, dissatisfied with the work, the owner decided to start the restoration from scratch and entrusted the car to the Negris, the undisputed Iso Rivolta specialists. They achieved a complete restoration between 2017 and 2019 which allowed the car to regain its original Rosso Rubino colour with a tan interior, the later being the owner's choice instead of the original white colour.
Unveiled on the lawns of Chantilly Concours in 2019, the car has since been driven regularly and maintained consistently. It is registered in France with a valid MOT. With a known history and a recent extensive restoration, this matching-numbers Iso Grifo is in concours condition.
Fitted with the highly sought-after 7-litre big block engine, it has everything it takes to shine at the finest concours d’élégance events or on the roads during prestigious rallies.
